铜管的耐压能力是塑料管和铝塑管的几倍乃至几十倍，它可以承受当今建筑中zui高水压。在热水环境下，随着使用年限的延长，塑料管材的承压能力显著下降，而铜管的机械性能在所有的热温范围内保持不变，故其耐压能力不会降低，也不会出现老化的现象。

铜管的线性膨胀系数很小，是塑料管的1/10，不会因为过度的热胀冷缩而导致应力疲劳破裂。

铜管的强度更大，在保证有效内径要求下，外径更小，更适于暗埋。

铜管在欧美经济发达国家中，应用很为普遍。而在我国特别是上海，解放前期也曾经大量应用铜管在建筑上。建国初期人们居住水平较低，对生活质量要求不高，同时因国防建设需要，铜作为战略物资而较少在住宅建筑中使用。到改革开放后取消了限制铜材使用的规定，《建筑给水排水设计规范》也在管材选用的条文中明确了铜管的应用。

随着我国经济的快速增长，人民居住条件的迅速改善，大家对生活质量水平有了更高的要求，“名山藏宝，名宅藏铜”的概念也开始悄然兴起。
